5 things to NEVER do before your photo session!

Photo Tips & Tricks, Education

It’s so exciting to finally be able to schedule that photo session with your favorite photographer, but don’t let this excitement lead to bad decisions.

If you want to avoid rescheduling, have the best possible experience, and get the photos you’ve been hoping for, there are a few key “don’ts” you should adhere to.

1.      Don’t Buy Skin Products You Haven’t Tried. Whether this is face cream or foundation, the week before your photoshoot is not the right time to try something new on your skin. You never know when you might have a bad reaction to a product, resulting in you having to postpone the shoot you’ve been so excited about.

2.      Don’t Try a New Hairstyle. You should absolutely look your best for your photo session, but this shouldn’t include drastically changing your hairstyle. Changing the color or style of your hair could leave you feeling self-conscious instead of confident on the day of your shoot. If you do want to try something new, do it several months before your session to decide if it works for you.

3.      Don’t Skimp on Sleep. A lack of sleep will show up in your photos and when you’re tired, you won’t enjoy your session as much either, so get enough sleep the night before.

4.      Don’t Sit in the Sun. Spending too much time in the sun before your shoot could leave you red and peeling before you get in front of the camera. And unfortunately, there is only so much your photographer can cover up during the editing process. Rather limit your time in the sun until after your shoot and make a point of wearing sunscreen daily.

5.      Don’t Stress About It. Your photo session should be a positive experience, not a stressful one. You can’t control every aspect of your shoot, so plan what you can and let your photographer do the rest. And if possible, avoid stressful situations in the week leading up to your shoot to prevent the stress from showing up on your face on the day.

Now that you know what to avoid, you can look forward to a fun and memorable experience in front of the camera! If you would like to work with a photographer who will hold your hand every step of the way, let's get you on my calendar!
