What style is best for YOUR family session?
If you’ve recently started your search for a family photographer, you’ll have noticed how many different styles there are.
There is no one answer as to which style is best for family photos – it all comes down to personal preferences.
To help you decide, here is what you need to know about the styles that are available to you.
Classic
Traditional family portraits were the original photography style and still have a place today. The aim of this type of session is to produce timeless images, which is why they tend to take place in a studio or at home. For this type of session, you can expect to pose more than with other styles. Choose a classic style if you’re capturing a generational photo or any other significant milestone.
Lifestyle
For those who would prefer something more relaxed and unposed, lifestyle family photography is a
good choice. Your photographer will help style and direct the session though so you won’t need to worry about what you should and shouldn’t be doing. Lifestyle photography takes place in any setting you would prefer.
Documentary
Love a good story or want to tell the story of your relationship or family? Documentary family photography is right for you. This type of session involves an activity of some sort. This way, your photographer can be in the background and capture the moments as they happen. Documentary family photography has become popular, especially among those with younger children, because they can just be, and you don’t need to try and convince your kids to pose.
Whichever style you decide on, make sure you are comfortable with the photographer you choose and that they specialize in the style you’re interested in. So... what style do you think is the most fitting for YOUR family? Tell me below in the comments!
